Dr. Javier Cort\u00e9s, director of the International Breast Cancer Center (IBCC), has participated as an expert in the development of the 5th ESO-ESMO International Consensus Guidelines for Advanced Breast Cancer (ABC5 Guidelines), as part of the 5th International Consensus Conference for Advanced Breast Cancer. This top-level scientific congress was held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 14 to 16 November 2019, and brought together more than 1,500 participants from 94 countries around the world.<\/p>\n

The conclusions from this scientific forum, ABC5, have recently been published in Annals of Oncology<\/a><\/u><\/em> and among its authors is Dr. Javier Cort\u00e9s Cast\u00e1n, director of the International Breast Cancer Center (IBCC).<\/p>\n

Since its first edition in 2011, the main objective of the ABC conference has been the development of high-quality international consensus guidelines for the treatment of advanced breast cancer.<\/p>\n

All recommendations have been developed by a multidisciplinary group of international experts, and are based on the best available clinical evidence and the authors’ collective expert opinion.<\/p>\n

The ABC5 guidelines are jointly developed by the European School of Oncology (ESO) and the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), and have been endorsed by several international oncology organizations.<\/p>\n

This ESO-ESMO ABC5 clinical practice guide has provided the following contributions:<\/p>\n

  1. Key recommendations for the treatment of patients with advanced breast cancer.<\/li>\n
  2. Updates on management, follow-up and palliative care\/support for patients with any subtype of advanced breast cancer.<\/li>\n
